2006 Qualifying Information

The qualifying fee listed below is based on a percentage of the annual salary of the office sought. The qualifying fee consists of a three percent filing fee, a two percent party fee, and a one percent election assessment, except that nonpartisan offices do not pay the two percent party fee and certain offices, as noted below, do not pay the election assessment fee. The fee is based on the salary of the office on July 1 preceeding qualifying.

Candidates may qualify by the petition method in lieu of paying a qualifying fee. The number of signatures required is based on one percent of the number of registered voters in the applicable district for the 2004 General Election, except for the Soil and Water District, which requires 25. The petition format is established by the Division of Elections and must be used by candidates to reproduce petitions for circulation. Per section 106.021, Florida Statutes, signatures may not be obtained until a candidate has filed the appointment of campaign treasurer and designation of campaign depository. If a candidate is running for an office that requires a group or district designation, the petition must indicate that designation and, if it does not, the signatures are not valid. Petitions must be submitted prior to noon on April 10 for federal and judicial candidates and June 19 for state, county and district candidates.
